Alone, Gullibility and More Denials

After Koffi Annan’s visit, Kenyans have been left feeling more alone than even before after the principles hoodwinked the latter that the reform agenda was progressing well and on schedule. The poor man fell for it. It never crossed my mind that the man despite his wide experience in diplomacy and international relations, would turn out to be so gullible like the rest of us. Falling for the same lies that are bandied around the airwaves and of late the print media on what the coalition government thinks is progress on the aforesaid reforms.

I could not help but feel sorry for this country after I watched the chair of the TJRC trying to explain what he thinks his commissions mandate is, all the while going on about the same thing and never getting to the point. The audience was clearly embarrassed by the Chairman’s apparent struggle to make a point and the cameramen were not helping either.

No offence meant but it is this group of fumbling geriatrics’ and overzealous comics such as our very own Alfred Mutua that we don’t need in sensitive positions as they hold. Ambassador Kiplagat was an excellent diplomat in his day but he has outlived his usefulness and should be encouraged to retire and go sit on the chair of his Krep bank as well as his age mates that include the President if any progress towards change, is to ever be achieved. They should be coaxed to leave peacefully by way of civil disobedience despite their capability to arm and inflict violence on the innocent citizenry as has been witnessed before.

Most interesting thing is that they have already started arming people from their communities in readiness for the 2012 elections that are expected to be Kenya’s defining moment as appertains to the country’s future. All this was being reported by the media after some simple investigative journalism, and later denied by the ever ranting police spokesman. My question to the authorities is this, do you need to wait for other parties to investigate real issues and report them for you to carry out post mortems after the damage has already been done? I have always thought your mandate was to serve and protect all and not to serve whoever is in power?

This is all the more reason why we need complete change and fast.

Extra Judicial Killings and Alfred’s Own World

It’s a sad day today that Kenya woke up to read in the newspapers of the chilling deaths of 4 innocent Kenyans who were going about their normal life of hustling just as they have always done since they attained maturity. The 4 lost their lives under a hail of bullets from Kenyan Police Officers after a supposed tip-off that they were members of the infamous and outlawed Mungiki Sect.

But contrary to the police reports, the four were genuine matatu operators who were waiting for passengers to board the matatus at the terminus before embarking on the journey to Nairobi from Githurai, which is 15kms away from the City.

The residents of Githurai who were visibly shaken by the Extra Judicial killings took to the streets protesting the deaths of the innocent 4 who were known to the residents as law abiding Kenyans.

Is this the same police force that has been defended so vehemently by the official police spokesman as being above reproach? Is it the same force that the common mwananchi is supposed to depend on for his/her security?

The force has more rogue officers that shoot at the slightest provocation as opposed to a mere 0.5% who work strictly according to the police code of conduct and ethics. Hence the need for a complete change of government that would include fresh uncorrupted faces in the police high command in order to effect a change in mentality and attitude that has for so long eluded the force.

Alfred Ngaga Mutua, comic of the decade. Alfred or Ngaga as we knew him in the neighborhood where we grew up has earned himself the reputation of blunderer of the decade as he pulls one shenanigan after another. Alfred looks at issues in a way that only he and his masters can. He sings the masters tunes and continues singing way after the master has stopped.

It was simply hilarious to see the adverts announcing a 90% progress rating of the grand coalition government adorning complete pages in our dailies thanks to Alfred and his knack of misusing public funds. Question is who monitors the funds used in Alfred’s department against misuse? Where does he get the audacity to suggest the above stated rating and under what context? Somebody ought to get the man a teaching job where he is bound to do more good, lecturing on literature and maybe launch a new subject in the schools curriculum, “how to be a top comic”.

This makes the entire government a laughing stock in the region and to our bilateral partners when the above mentioned individual does his thing as he is bound to all the time. We need to effect a serious change in government and get our priorities right while we are at it.
